The BMW Group has named Bernhard Kuhnt as to the CEO of BMW of North America and a member of Ludwig Willisch’s management team.
Kuhnt will assume the role on March 1. Willisch is the head of BMW Group Region Americas with responsibility for the Americas region.
In an announcement, the company said Petter Witt, executive vice president of operations will leave the BMW Group at the end of the month “to a new role outside the company.” Kuhnt will “have a clear priority” to fill Witt’s position.
Witt was named to his current post in May 2016. He was previously regional vice president of BMW’s U.S. West region. He was previously managing director of BMW Sweden and sales director for the importer regions Africa, Caribbean and Eastern Europe.
“I am delighted to welcome Bernhard Kuhnt to our Americas team,” Willisch said, in the release. “Bernhard brings many years of experience in the global automotive industry to his new role here in the United States. At the same time, we are sorry to say goodbye to Petter Witt, but wish him the greatest success in his new business endeavor.”
Kuhnt currently oversees the BMW Group importer market, overseeing sales in over 80 countries. For over nine years, he was in the United States in automobile sales management.
