A company owned by the BMW Group is working through a partnership with another company to develop a flagship smartphone.
Designworks, which was purchased by the BMW Group in 1995, is planning to work with ZTE Mobile Devices, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China, to develop ZTE’s new flagship smartphone, the Axon 7.
According to a release, the new phone will feature a dual speaker layout and thin design.
“Designworks also optimized the authentication ritual which often is not very ergonomic, involving a risk of the user dropping the device. With the new AXON 7 authentication becomes intuitive and easy by tapping an index finger on the back of the phone where the user’s index finger naturally grips it,” the release said.
The fingerprint ID sensor is recessed to allow a user to find it without smudging the camera lens.
According to BMW, Designworks is a “creative consultancy” that has clients including: BMW, MINI, Rolls Royce, HP, Microsoft, Corsair, Coca Cola, Embraer, Neil Pryde, John Deere, Siemens Trains and Singapore Airlines.
