Honda of South Carolina Manufacturing Inc. announced it will invest $45 million in expanding its Florence County operation. As a result, the expansion is expected to create 250 new jobs over the next few years, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.
According to Commerce, the company’s plant in Timmonsville is “one of the company’s 19 major manufacturing facilities in North America. Honda of South Carolina is the sole production facility for Honda ATVs and SxS vehicles in the region, and associates there have produced more than three million products since it opened its doors in 1998.”
“Our Associates are very proud of the ATV and SxS products we make at Honda of South Carolina,” said Gary Mabrey, Honda of South Carolina president, in a press release. “This investment and plant expansion reaffirms our commitment to our customers, the State of South Carolina, and our local communities.”
Last year, the company announced the addition of two product lines – the Pioneer 1000 and Pioneer 1000-5 – to the Timmonsville facility. That came with a $42 million expansion.
Coupled with the latest expansion announcement, the company will grow its Florence County facility by nearly 115,000 square feet. The latest expansion is expected to be complete in late 2019.
“This investment is a testament to Florence County’s economic vitality and strong workforce,” said Roger Poston, Florence County Council chairman, in the release.
Hiring for the new positions has begun and will continue throughout the next several years. Those interested in joining the Honda of South Carolina team should visit the company’s job postings page online.
